How to Test Quality of Metal Stamping Parts?

The Stamping process is one of the most commonly used metal processing methods which refers to processes of using dies to make steel, non-ferrous metals and other steel sheets formed in specified shapes by pressure of press machines. Then, how do metal stamping manufacturers inspect quality of metal stamping parts?

 

For metal stamping processing, first, we need to control quality of raw materials. The following five types of inspection methods can be used to test stamping parts.

 

First, touch inspections

Wipe the surface of the outer cover with the clean gauze. The inspector is required to wear the touch gloves to touch the surface of the stamping part lengthways, and this test method depends on the experience of the inspector. 

 

Second, using abrasive stones

1. First, wipe the surface of the outer cover with the clean gauze, and then use the abrasive stone to grind the surface; we can use relatively small abrasive stones to grind surfaces which are difficult to touch.

 

2. Selection of abrasive grit depends on surface appearance of stamping parts. We recommend using abrasive stones with small grit. The grinding direction should be basically the longitudinal direction, and the abrasive stone should be close to the surface of the stamping part; we can also choose horizontal grinding directions for special parts of stamping products.

 

Third, using flexible gauze

Wipe the surface of the outer cover with the clean gauze. Use flexible gauze to lengthways grind the whole surface of the stamping part, and any pit and indentation will be found easily.

 

Fourth, oil inspections

Wipe the surface of the outer cover with the clean gauze, and then use a brush to evenly brush the oil on the whole surface of the stamping part in the same direction. Use bright light to inspect stamping parts, and we recommend vertically putting stamping parts which are coated with oil. The tiny pit and the crack can be easily found on the surface of the stamping part.

 

Fifth, visual inspections

Visual inspections are mainly used to find abnormal appearance and macroscopic defects of stamping parts. We can know whether the stamping product has good quality or not according to the inspection methods above. Poor quality stamping parts which lack management or come into the market won’t trouble you any more.
